About Current Creative
Strategic brand development for small businesses ready to compete.
Current Creative brings 15 years of experience orchestrating complex projects for global brands to ambitious small businesses ready to level up, with the strategic thinking, producer precision, and complete execution they deserve.
Why I started Current Creative
I'm Jake Durrett, and I'm a producer.
That means I'm a systems thinker. I see how all the pieces need to work together, and I actually get things done.
I spent a decade leading digital projects for global brands. But my favorite work was always with smaller businesses—the ones getting passed over not because they weren't good enough, but because their brand didn't communicate their value.
Here's what I learned: projects fail when nobody can translate between clients, designers, and developers. Most people focus on one piece, the creative or the technical, but miss how everything needs to connect as a system.
That's when it clicked: Small businesses need someone who can orchestrate complete brand systems. Someone who speaks designer, developer, strategist, and client. They need a producer.
So I'm launching Current Creative Company to do this full-time: to bring the strategic methodology I used with global brands to small businesses who deserve the same level of thinking and execution.
How We Work Differently
Strategy before design: Most designers jump to logos. We start with 2 weeks of strategy: talking with your customers, researching competitors, understanding your business inside and out. Every design decision then supports your business goals, not just aesthetics. We build trust by understanding where you're going before touching any design.
One strategic partner, complete orchestration: You're not coordinating multiple vendors and hoping it comes together. We handle strategy, design, copywriting, and development, orchestrating everything so it works as a cohesive system.
Producer precision: We meet every deadline. We are proactive with communication. You're not chasing us for updates. The project moves forward relentlessly. This reliability is how we earn and keep your trust throughout our 8 weeks together.
Personal attention: We take just three clients at a time. You're not competing for our attention. When we are working on your brand, we’re 100% focused. You get white-glove treatment because that's the only way we work.
Genuine care: We are not trying to scale to 100 clients per year or build something to sell to a VC firm. If your business is scaling like that, that's awesome. We are here to support you. We want 12-15 clients annually who we can truly serve. We want you to be thrilled with the results because that's how we build a sustainable, referral-based business. Your success is our reputation.
Expert network when you need it: We can handle strategy, design, copywriting, video, photo, and development. But if your project needs specialized expertise, we bring in specialists from our network of collaborators we’ve worked with for years. You won't coordinate vendors or manage multiple people. We orchestrate everything. You work with Jake: one point of contact with access to deep expertise when needed.

Common Questions
-
I understand budget constraints. Here are your options:
Wait until you're ready. The Premier Brand System™ is designed for businesses at a stage where they can invest strategically. If you're not there yet, that's okay. Focus on building revenue and come back when $20K feels like an investment, not a burden.
Explore more budget-friendly options. DIY tools and freelancers can get you functional for less. They won't give you strategic depth, but they can hold you over until you're ready for premium positioning.
Payment plans are available. If the total investment is the only barrier, we can discuss spreading payments over the project timeline.
The bottom line: I want you to invest when you're ready, financially and mentally. When that time comes, reach out.

vs. Big Agencies:
Big agencies are built for big companies. You'll pay $50K-$100K+ for resources and capabilities that far exceed what a small business needs. You're also competing with their Fortune 500 clients for attention, which means you might get handed off to junior staff while senior strategists focus on bigger accounts.
My services are tailored specifically for small businesses. You get senior-level strategic thinking without paying for the bloat. And you're not client #47. You're one of three. That's a very different experience.
vs. Freelancers:
Freelancers typically specialize in one area: design OR development OR copywriting. You'll pay less per person, but you'll need to hire multiple people and coordinate them yourself. That means you become the project manager, hoping everything comes together cohesively (it usually doesn't).
You're also competing with their day job, other clients, and varying levels of organization. Some are excellent. Many are disorganized, miss deadlines, or deliver piecemeal work that doesn't connect.
What makes me different:
I'm a producer, which means obsessive organization and systems thinking. I orchestrate strategy, design, copywriting, and development as one complete system. You get one strategic partner who sees the whole picture, not multiple vendors hoping it works out.
I take three clients at a time. For 8 weeks, you're all I'm thinking about. You get producer-level precision, Fortune 500 methodology, and personal attention, built specifically for small businesses ready to compete.

Absolutely. For existing businesses, we refine and modernize rather than start from scratch.
Your current customers recognize your brand. Even if your logo isn't perfect, it has equity. We don't want to confuse customers.
During discovery, we'll assess your audience and how much change they can tolerate. Then we strategically refine your logo, cleaning up dated elements, modernizing execution, creating a complete system, while preserving recognition.
The goal: Your customers think "Oh, they upgraded" not "Wait, who is this?"
Evolution, not revolution.

No. Professional doesn't mean corporate.
If you're warm and approachable, we'll make you look warm and approachable, just elevated. If you're direct and no-nonsense, we'll reflect that. If you're creative and unconventional, we'll lean into it.
This is why we spend 2 weeks on strategy. Part of discovery is understanding who you are, how you talk, and who your customers are. We define your brand personality together, then bring it to life.
Some clients need to feel corporate because their industry demands it. Others need to feel personal and human because that's their advantage.
The goal isn't a template. It's an elevated, professional version of who you actually are.
You, but competing at the next level.

Absolutely. I work with clients nationwide: Houston, San Francisco, New York, Minneapolis, and everywhere in between.
The entire process happens virtually: Zoom calls, email, phone. Location doesn't matter. That said, if you prefer to have in-person worksessions with you or your team, I can make that happen too.
Need photo or video production? I happily travel for shoots and can prepare a custom quote with travel and production costs included.
I'm based in Michigan, but my clients are all over the country.
