Why Current Creative Exists

I'm Jake Durrett, and I'm a producer.

I'm based in Birmingham, Michigan with my wife (Chief Operating Officer for a multi-million dollar company), our two daughters, and our two rescue dogs, a senior dachshund from California, and a puppy golden retriever from Texas.

Before returning home to Michigan, we spent a decade designing our life across California: Sacramento, San Francisco, Joshua Tree, San Diego. That intentionality didn't stop at where we lived. From our home to how we work, we architect systems that actually function.

This isn't abstract. My wife and I are both natural problem solvers who understand technology and obsess over design, not just on screens, but in physical space, in processes, in how things come together. That's the lens I bring to your business.

For 15 years, I've orchestrated complete brand transformations for Fortune 500 companies and ambitious startups. I'm the systems thinker who translates between strategy, design, development, and business goals. Most people can do one piece. I orchestrate all of it.

I look at every angle. I solve from first principles. I intuitively know what looks and feels right because I've trained that muscle in every dimension of life.

I understand what it takes to build and run a real business. That's why I built Current Creative: to be a true partner for business owners who care about how they show up in the world and the future they're creating.

What Makes Current Different

One Partner Who Sees Everything. We're obsessive about solving problems—that's what you're buying. Most brand strategists can't build websites. Most developers can't do strategy. Most designers can't write copy. We do all of it, and bring in specialists from our 15-year network when needed. You get one strategic partner who orchestrates everything, not five vendors hoping it comes together.

Producer-Level Execution. Every deadline met. Proactive communication. Nothing falls through the cracks. We work with a limited number of clients at a time. When we're on your project, you're all we're thinking about.

Built for the Long Term. Your success is our reputation. People we work with keep coming back because they saw measurable results and know they can trust us.

Common Questions

  • For businesses doing $500K-$2M annually, $20K is 1-4% of revenue—a strategic investment that repositions you to capture premium pricing.

Most clients recoup their investment within 6-12 months through better positioning and premium pricing.

If you're not sure this fits your budget or stage, book a call anyway. I'll give you my honest assessment and won't push you into something that's not right for where you are.

  • vs. Big Agencies:

Big agencies are built for big companies. You'll pay $50K-$100K+ for resources and capabilities that far exceed what a small business needs. You're also competing with their Fortune 500 clients for attention, which means you might get handed off to junior staff while senior strategists focus on bigger accounts.

My services are tailored specifically for small businesses. You get senior-level strategic thinking without paying for the bloat. And you're not client #47. That's a very different experience.

    vs. Freelancers:

Freelancers typically specialize in one area: design OR development OR copywriting. You'll pay less per person, but you'll need to hire multiple people and coordinate them yourself. That means you become the project manager, hoping everything comes together cohesively (it usually doesn't).

You're also competing with their day job, other clients, and varying levels of organization. Some are excellent. Many are disorganized, miss deadlines, or deliver piecemeal work that doesn't connect.

    What makes me different:

I'm a producer, which means obsessive organization and systems thinking. I orchestrate strategy, design, copywriting, and development as one complete system focused on building your wealth and industry credibility. You get one strategic partner who sees the whole picture, not multiple vendors hoping it works out.

For 8 weeks, you're all I'm thinking about. You get producer-level precision, Fortune 500 methodology, personal attention, and strategic positioning that unlocks premium pricing built specifically for small or medium businesses ready to compete.

  • Absolutely. For existing businesses, we refine and modernize rather than start from scratch.

Your current customers recognize your brand. Even if your logo isn't perfect, it has equity. We don't want to confuse customers.

During discovery, we'll assess your audience and how much change they can tolerate. Then we strategically refine your logo, cleaning up dated elements, modernizing execution, creating a complete system, while preserving recognition.

The goal: Your customers think "Oh, they upgraded" not "Wait, who is this?"

  • No. Professional doesn't mean corporate.

If you're warm and approachable, we'll make you look warm and approachable, just elevated. If you're direct and no-nonsense, we'll reflect that. If you're creative and unconventional, we'll lean into it.

This is why we spend 2 weeks on strategy. Part of discovery is understanding who you are, how you talk, and who your customers are. We define your brand personality together, then bring it to life.

Some clients need to feel corporate because their industry demands it. Others need to feel personal and human because that's their advantage.

The goal isn't a template. It's an elevated, professional version of who you actually are.

You, but competing at the next level.

  • Absolutely. I work with clients nationwide: Houston, San Francisco, New York, Minneapolis, and everywhere in between.

The entire process happens virtually: Zoom calls, email, phone. Location doesn't matter. That said, if you prefer to have in-person worksessions with you or your team, I can make that happen too.

Need photo or video production? I happily travel for shoots and can prepare a custom quote with travel and production costs included.

I'm based in Michigan, but my clients are all over the country.
